We are a small family based business providing professional pet-centred services to pet owners and their pets in the Selby District of North Yorkshire.
We are members of the National Association of Registered Professional Pet sitters (NARP), we carry full Indemnity & third party liability Insurance, and are licensed by Selby District Council for Restricted Boarding and fostering within our home. We have built up excellent relations with Holmefield Veterinary Clinic and the district Dog Warden; Bill Parker. For additional peace of mind, and client security, we all have fully enhanced disclosure certificates from the Criminal Records Bureau (the highest form of Police Checks).
Here at Selby Pet Carers we have extensive training in animal behaviour, animal welfare, and first aid, with many years of 'hands on' experience in animal care in general.
But most importantly - we all love animals and feel passionately about the pets entrusted to our care.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our philosophy is to provide each and every pet with as near a routine of affection, care, and compassion, appropriate to the needs of the individual animal, that they have grown accustomed to. In the very least we aim to provide what we would expect for our own, very much loved, animal companions.
We will endeavour to provide the very best pet-care arrangements for pets when you go away and hope to give you, and your pets, total peace of mind by providing a professional, confidential, trustworthy, and reliable pet centred service.
WHY SET UP SELBY PET CARERS?
The absence of a professionally registered and legally licensed alternative pet care provision within the Selby District, along with disturbing Scientific research suggesting negative effects on family pets, led us on our journey to start up ‘Selby Pet Carers’.
Being pet owners ourselves, we understand the responsibility, commitment, and attachment, that are all part of being a loving pet owner. To many of us our pets are as much a part of the family as any other family member. We love, care, and worry about them, and the thought of going away and putting our 'friends' into boarding kennels or catteries often generate feelings of stress, guilt and unhappiness.
As if to endorse these negative feelings, Scientific research strongly supports that many dogs and cats, especially our close family companions and lap dogs, do not cope well in traditional boarding establishments and can often suffer from associated long-term problems.
The often-harmful experiences endured by our beloved pets, in part, are due to the high number of animals boarded and the time constraints placed upon staff. In the case of our canine friends, being social animals by nature and design, they can find the lack of human contact and the incessant barking of unfamiliar dogs, both overwhelming and extremely stressful. This stress can later manifest into severe behavioural problems associated with ‘Separation Anxiety’.
The research for our feline friends provides even stronger evidence of long-term negative effects. In part, this can be attributed to the cat’s innate territorial instincts, and suggests where possible, that cats should be cared for in their own home environment so that they can maintain and oversee their ‘home’ territory, regardless of whether they are indoor or outdoor cats.
